Is Scott Stanford your pick for top media moment of 2013?

The clock is about to strike midnight on 2013. That means it’s time go down memory lane for the Best Moments of the Year. Good or bad, there were several standout moments representing the media landscape in New York.

Among them,

  • Rob Morrison was under media scrutiny for allegedly choking his wife, Ashley, in February. Within days of the incident, Rob was officially gone from his morning anchoring duties at WCBS-TV.
  • Greg Kelly, however, was welcomed back to mornings, as co-anchor of WNYW’s Good Day New York. Kelly spent six short months as the station’s lead anchor at night. The failed experiment caused a “do-over” in January, re-teaming the popular Kelly with Rosanna Scotto.
  • WPIX made some waves by hiring sportscaster Scott Stanford as a news anchor.
  • No need for a news anchor at WWOR. The Fox affiliate pulled the plug on the Ten O’Clock News and any semblance of a news department. Continue reading

Ashley Morrison Exits CBS MoneyWatch Due to Extended Commute

Ashley MorrisonAshley Morrison is no longer working for CBS MoneyWatch. The blond business reporter, who was seen mornings on many CBS affiliates, including WCBS/Channel 2, has left the company after four years. Morrison says her reason for leaving is due to a combination of a longer commute and early hours.

MoneyWatch is starting to have its reporter on scene from the New York Stock Exchange, instead of West 57th, and that was too much for Morrison.

“I don’t think a lot of people realize that I get up at 12:30 a.m. for work,” Morrison tells Tuned In. “I knew I was going to have to get up at midnight.”

She was also anticipating a longer ride from Wall Street to Darien, Connecticut.

“I didn’t know how I could give another hour and a half, two hours of my day,” Morrison admits.

Morrison would not discuss her husband Rob, who resigned from WCBS in February in the wake of a domestic violence incident. But she did mention their eight-year-old son and how her schedule was a struggle.

“Even when I’m here in the evenings with Jack, I don’t feel present,” Morrison says. “I’m always jetlagged and tired.”

Additionally, she worried that her fatigue could cause a problem on the road.

“I can always find another job, but I can’t get time back with Jack.”

Morrison says the job hunt will wait at least a couple of months.

Former Anchor Rob Morrison ‘Would Hate’ if Career Ends in Scandal

rob-morrisonBy JERRY BARMASH

Rob Morrison is a man on a mission. He wants his family unit glued back together and ultimately, he wants reconciliation with television as well.

The disgraced anchorman lost his cushy WCBS-TV morning anchor gig in February after allegations that he choked his wife, Ashley, a CBS MoneyWatch anchor who continues in her job.

While working to restore his marriage and shield their young son, Morrison hopes to get back into TV.

“I would hate it if my career ended in scandal,” Morrison tells Tuned In. “I gave everything I had to it. What’s happened here is definitely unfortunate.”

Morrison continues to profess his innocence about the alleged events on the Sunday morning at their house that led to his arrest.  Morrison says once details from the case are made public, he thinks that will go a long way toward restoring his image.

“I’m not guilty of what I’m accused of and I’m hoping when that is proven people will understand it and I’ll get another opportunity somewhere.

“People who know the truth, including my wife, [are] horrified by things that have come out in the tabloids,” Morrison claims.

Morrison says his character is untarnished, but assigns some blame for his uphill battle.

“It’s more about the perception. Unfortunately, that is the TV business… At times, it has very little to do with reality,” Morrison says.
