Insider: Krishnan Apprehensive About Future at WPIX

Time heals all wounds. Unless, of course, you’re referring to WPIX. With ratings still in the tank, nerves are rattled that an overhaul is on the horizon. But for now, morning executive producer Chuck Carter is exiting this week.

He and news director Amy Waldman didn’t forge the best relationship. Ironically, while many staffers are upset with the station direction under Waldman, sources tell Tuned In that Carter is no fan favorite either among the East 42nd faithful.

“I can’t tell you how many people have left under Amy’s watch,” a source says.

Insiders say another big name could join that list as veteran morning anchor Sukanya Krishnan is apprehensive about her future at Channel 11. Her contract is expected to expire within weeks, and a move could free up large sums of cash for Tribune. Krishnan is part of PIX since 2001, and was named anchor of the Morning Show in 2004.

Many people speculate that upstart 5 a.m. anchor Kala Rama could be waiting in the wings to replace Krishnan.

The Morning Show did lose its longtime meteorologist Linda Church, who left in January, despite begging her to stay on through the February sweeps period. She declined. We’re told Church had become increasingly fed up with management.

For those who remain looking up in the ratings at the other newscasts, they continue to scratch their collective heads wondering how Waldman is still in charge.

One source calling her “clueless” and others say she should have been fired a long time ago.

Marysol Castro Out, Dan Mannarino Uncertain, as WPIX Cuts Early Morning Newscast

WPIX140605055949We barely had time to take a deep breath since the night time changes at PIX, bouncing Scott Stanford to sports and rolling out the red carpet for John Muller (more in a moment), when another salvo struck.

The PIX (early) Morning News was upended today, right before our eyes. Marysol Castro, who rejoined Channel 11 in September, anchored for the final time today. Tuned In confirmed it from multiple sources and she alluded to her dismissal in the closing seconds with on-air partner Dan Mannarino.

“Hey dude, it was nice knowing you,” Castro told Mannarino.

“It was fun,” he replied.

As for Mannarino, his status is a bit muddy. He’s been part of numerous rumors for months. But we’ve learned on good authority that Mannarino is taking some time off to decide on his future. Another definite, if Mannarino returns it won’t be behind the anchor desk.

Passionate Viewers Sound-Off About Frances Rivera Dismissal from WPIX

FrancesWhile the buzz has been surrounding night time changes at WPIX, notably Scott Stanford‘s ascension to news anchor, the public is speaking in record numbers about the morning newscasts.

It’s three months since our breaking news filled the Internet that Frances Rivera would not have her contract renewed. We’ve received feedback from dozens of people and we’re still getting comments. Here is a sample of some strong opinions posted to Tuned In.

Chrissy Craig writes, “I thought Francis Rivera did an awesome job…loved her smile…sense of humor and her charm.”

Barbara Fortini says, “I am completely floored! I have been looking for Frances for weeks. Frances Rivera is a very pleasant, professional and enjoyable to watch… Too bad for PIX because many people will not be viewing the news without Frances at the helm.”

Joel Santos concurs, “I thought Francis was out on emergency leave or maybe even vacation, but now morning after morning of not seeing her around, it was obvious something was wrong. I googled Francis Rivera to read this heart wrenching news! This must’ve been a decision based on politics,  because anyone who tuned into the PIX11 Morning News saw there was nothing but chemistry on the air between Sukanya and Francis.”
