WPIX Names Julie Grauert to Dual Role as Traffic and News Reporter

The ship is being steered by a new captain. While the waters may be rough, news director Mark Effron has made his first hire since joining WPIX last month.

Julie Grauert is the station’s new morning traffic reporter. Channel 11 has been in the market for a traffic reporter since Steve Villanueva returned to his weather roots on WNBC last summer.

Grauert cut her reporting teeth in New York at WNYW/Channel 5. She’ll handle a daily split schedule. After doing traffic on the PIX Morning News from 4 to 6 a.m., Grauert becomes general assignment reporter for the 5 and 10 p.m. broadcasts.

“Julie has a strong local news background. She brings a reporter’s inquisitiveness to traffic coverage, and that will benefit our viewers,” Effron said in a statement.

Prior to moving to New York, Grauert was an anchor in Portland, Oregon at KPTV and KPDX. Before that, she worked as an anchor and producer in Rapid City, South Dakota at KNBN.

Grauert, who begins the week of May 13, has an Emmy Award, AP Award, and a Telly Award on her mantle.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with Mark and couldn’t be happier to be joining the talented and well-respected journalists in the PIX11 newsroom,” said Grauert.
